Recently, USCIS has outlined steps to address the backlog, including suspending biometrics and allowing automatic extensions. Unfortunately, there are no automatic extensions for H-4 or L-2 Employment Authorization Documents.

Suspending Biometrics Requirement for H-4, L-2, E-1, E-2, and E-3 Visa Holders

Starting May 17, 2021, USCIS will temporarily suspend biometrics submission requirements for individuals filing Form I-539 to request an extension of stay in or change of status to H-4, L-2, E-1, E-2, and E-3. The suspension will also apply to Form I-539 applications that are pending as of the effective date of the policy and have not yet received a biometric services appointment notice. The extension is intended to automatically expire after May 17, 2023.
