The Executive Office for Immigration Review (“EOIR”) has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/doj.eoir. Unfortunately you have to “like” the page in order to get updates. We here at FFA “like” getting updates from the EOIR but certainly don’t like many of their decisions, policies, or backlogs that keep clients from getting hearings for years when there is relief available. The EOIR page is so far very limited and really only links to their main website which does not have a mobile version as of yet.  The page oddly doesn’t even include the phone number for calling regarding case status.

This Facebook page may lead to additional technological advances such as E-filing for attorneys, something that Article 3 federal courts started adopting in 2001, but I’d be just as pleased for the EOIR to spend its resources on improving procedures and hiring additional staff to address the ridiculous backlog of cases. The average case takes over two years when the person is actually granted relief and just less than one year for individuals to be deported, click here for the data.  Of cases here at FFA we represent an individual who in the beginning of 2013 received a final hearing date for the end of 2015 even though the case was 100% prepared, filed, and had already been pending for several years. To be more efficient EOIR needs to spend its time training judges and developing case management techniques their colleagues on the federal bench adopted long ago. Perhaps I’ll post this comment on their Facebook page to get their attention.
