Immigration Options For Poker Players

Categories: Immigration Lawyer Blog San Diego

A Canadian poker player, Terrence Chan made headlines last week as he was denied entry into the United States. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) is becoming selectively stricter on certain individuals. If they believe a person is at risk to not return to his/her home country the officer may deny entry. The individual officers are given a great deal of power.  Some officers allow legitimate visitors to enter quite leniently while others are very strict and will deny entry for any reason whatsoever.

Fortunately options are available for professional poker players and bridge players that can demonstrate they are at the top of their field. The immigration attorneys at Feldman Feldman & Associates PC have successfully obtained O-1 visas for several card players, many of which eventually decided to immigrate here as well.  World Class Bridge and Poker players can qualify for an EB-1 alien of extraordinary ability green card. For more information on these visas check out our article on Employment Based Green Cards.
