The White House issued a promising statement on April 7th, that the Department of Homeland Security intends to propose a rule that would allow H-4 spouses the right to work. If this passes and becomes a regulation then this would be wonderful news. Many spouses of H-1b visa holders on an H-4 visa would like to work, but are currently unable to work unless they can get an H-1b or other visa of their own. And unfortunately, this is quite difficult due to quota restrictions, specialty occupation restrictions, as well as the fact that many employers do not want to pay the fees for sponsoring someone.
This news from the White House is very promising, but remember this is just a proposed rule at this time, and is not yet in effect. More information should become available in the coming months.
